they are nice if you make them nice and the cats will probaly know that they are near so they probaly willl be straching at your door
From what I hear ducks do not make excellent pets, they often will bite at the toes of the owners and are aggressive. Although this is what several people have told me, they could have just gotten terrible seeds.
I had four that I bought as ducklings. I kept them in a small room with paper down. They swam in a cake pan! When they got huge, they liked to roam on my small farm. They will go to neighbor’s place. Mine used to eat their cat food. They were more hassle than they were value as adults.
From personal experience, I can tell you that if you take proper care of your duck(s), they will bring splendid joy into your life. A duck is intelligent, lively, inquisitive, and snuggly if you raise it aptly.
Ducks can wear diapers for indoor income. Exchange it out every so often, and they can be happily inside, and poop messes are no longer an issue. Try a site such as thegoosesmother for excellent thoughts/products/diapers.
Ducks aren’t pleased if they’re left in a cage. If you raise this bird, and especially if you only have one, it will want nothing more in the world than to be with you. A large dog cage or secure outdoor pen is fine for unsupervised times, but NOT for the majority of the time. As for swimming, a duck will be pleased with access to a small kiddy pool, though a small pond is always preferred. A bath tub works also, but then there is a poop mess you have to worry about.
All ducks are different, but if you raise them with like, they will like you back tenfold. When you are their flock, they are most pleased with you- being snuggled, talked to, and sitting in your lap. But, if you leave for a day or so, it nearly breaks their heart, so you have to plot nearly them and take them into consideration if you plot on leaving for over a day (my duck stopped eating all together and lost a lot of weight when I left her in the care of someone else for a week).
All in all, a duck is a WONDERFUL pet, and I absolutely highly thought of mine when I had her. But you have to be sure that you will be able to provide for your duck, for your duck’s entire life. Tender to a place where you can’t keep a duck? Going away to college? Take vacations? Don’t get a duck. Can you afford the vet care that comes with an exotic animal? If not, don’t get a duck. Do you have the time to devote to an animal that thrives on your companionship and like, and suffers in your absence? If not, don’t get a duck and cause it needless heartache.
If you are particular that you can care properly for a duck, I’d say go for it and delight in an absolutely wonderful companion. If not, delight consider a lower maintenance animal as your new friend.
Generally from my experience domestic cats won’t touch ducks. We have had ducks in various neighbor hood yards and cats have by no means been an issue, along with having two of our own cats and them being nearly ducklings and not taking a following look. While ducks could live inside as adults the poop will be an issue, they like to forage outdoors and swim. best of luck.
