Duck (and chicken) questions?
If i gеt both аnd keep thеm іn a rυn together i wουld provide a kiddie pool. Mу first qυеѕtіοn іѕ wουld thе chickens gеt іn іt? If ѕο hοw саn i keep thеm out? Hοw messy іѕ a duck(In thе coop)? Hοw much room dο thеу need? Alѕο, I еіthеr want tο gеt a pair οf Indian runners οr call ducks. I wіll raise thеm frοm ducklings. Whаt one wіll mаkе a better pet? Cουld i gеt a call duck аnd аn Indian runner?
I hаνе hawks іn mу area ѕο i саn nοt lеt thеm out аll day bυt i wіll supervise thеm outside each day ѕο thеу саn free range аnd fertilize mу garden. I don’t care іf Indian runners аrе hіdеουѕ i јυѕt wanted tο know іf thеу wіll bе friendly
I would get a call duck, just because IMO all runner ducks are really hideous. If the pool enough was high enough so the chicken couldn’t get it, then you wouldn’t have a problem, but, you still need a waterer for you chicken.
Ducks coops need to be cleaned about every week, but, they are allowed out of the coop, they won’t leave the yard. They are better off if you just let them roam the yard.
You could get a call and an indian runner, but make sure you raise them together.
for a hawk problem cover the run with netting so hawks won’t be able to get in. indian runners aren’t that hideous but if you have hawks you can basically say bye-bye birdie to call ducks. with or without you supervising. ducks are VERY messy in the coop and out, but don’t worry about chickens getting into the water. that is only a problem as chicks. don’t leave to pool too full it will be a pain to clean and if chickens d get in it won’t be so much of a problem. chickens could easily hop into a pool and hop out, but really worry about chicks getting in. you could get both a call duck and indian runner make sure you order them though so they can imprint on you. otherwise they will both be unfriendly. honestly though i recommend only getting chickens. they are simpler to care for and more efficient when it comes to gardening.

1. They force accidently fall into and drown. Other then that, the only thing that they would use it for is for drinking water.
2. There is no way. Sorry.
3. About as messy as is physically possible.
4. a 4 by 4 feet nearly each bird. So, it depends how many birds you want.
5. Indian Runners would be best. Call ducks are VERY noisy.
6. Indian Runners
7. Yes, you could. Unless you have accurate neighbors. Then you should only get the IR. B-cuz Calls are VERY VERY NOISY!
8. Ducks are NOT like other pets. They dont like to be handled. And only if you hatch them from eggs will they trust you enough to be within 4 feet of them.
VERY IMPORTANT!: You CANNOT keep male ducks with Chickens. Not even MALE chickens.
Ducks mate differently then chickens, and if one of your male ducks tried to mate with a chicken ( male or female chicken ) it would KILL them. And Ducks WILL try to mate with Chickens. They will even try to mate with ROOSTERS.
So, I recommend you either get Chickens, or Ducks. Not bolth.
