My dog will not stop scratching and biting herself. I have tried everything. PLEASE HELP!!1?

Mу 3 year ancient female Morkie hаѕ bееn scratching аnd biting herself fοr thе past 2 аnd a half being. I hаνе seriously tried everything. I hаνе taken hеr tο thе vet countless times – ѕhе even hаѕ a dermatologist. Shе hаѕ bееn οn special diets tο eliminate food allergies. Shе hаѕ bееn οn shots fοr nearly a year аnd a half now. Shе′s bееn οn Atopica аnd οthеr steroids countless times… even thе medicated shampoos such аѕ ChlorhexiDerm isn’t working! Wе аrе giving Skin Eze tablets tο hеr twice a day, bυt I’m still nοt seeing аnу improvement. Due tο thіѕ diet thаt ѕhе′s οn (cooked duck mixed wіth duck аnd potato kibbles) ѕhе іѕ LOSING weight аnd іѕ becoming tοο thin. I јυѕt don’t know whаt еlѕе tο dο fοr hеr аbουt hеr scratching. Dοеѕ anyone know whаt tο dο? I јυѕt want tο give hеr ѕοmе relief аnd see hеr without a shirt fοr once.

my terrier did the same thing..you can try a few things..one is not to use shampoo on her..get an organic shampoo with no sulfates..any healthfood store carries them..and make sure you rinse rinse rinse her very excellent…keep her bed clean and go to petsmart and see about a food for food allergies..my dog got cortisone shots and that helped but its hard to pin down…see if the doc thinks a xanax type of med will help…hope this helped..
p.s George is an ass ignore him..

Does she have fleas? It could be a flea allergy. My dog has a flea allergy, and is constantly scratching/licking/biting, especially in the warmer months. Summertime she nearly looks like she has mange.

It could be a psychological thing. Lots of dogs have OCD. I don’t know how to fix it though…

  • Hannah M says:

Maybe she is allergic to mites, fleas, and/or ticks.

I know it sounds crazy, but there are anti-nervousness/anti-depressant RX drugs for dogs. Look into those.
Other than that, try massaging plain safflower oil into her skin and adding fish oil to her kibble.

obviously you know that she is allergic to something.

Here in california I go to the most insanely top vet (to the stars):
    this is what she reccomends:

    DVM pharmaceuticals:

Relief Spray (can be applied daily)
    http://www.amazon.com/Relief-Spray-DVM-Pharmaceuticals/dp/B000RI3ER6

Relief Creme Rinse (conditioner (after shampoo))
    http://www.amazon.com/Relief-Creme-Rinse-8-oz/dp/B0009YWE2Y

———————— a word of precautionary advice: DVM Pharmecuticals has been haulted by the FDA for not adhering to their strict guidelines when it comes to the manufacturing of their pet vitamin supplements (a different rift). As such, DVM chose to halt all manufacture of EVERYTHING until they can get their supplement investigation cleared up. Mind you, this has NOTHING to do with the shampoo/cleaning products. Nevertheless it is hard to come across the DVM Relief products at this time (it is impossible to find the shampoo but I’ve found the conditioner and spray just fine). As such, I have found a suitable replacement for the shampoo. My dog has not had any reaction to the product listed below either.

It sounds like an allergy, allergies don’t have to be from food. Lamb causes most dogs to get an allergic reaction, but it could be something from your home, or a plant in the area you live in. The vets can do test to try and determine what she force be allergic to. It could be anything from dust to insulation, to pollen, to something in your home.
