Why do people say cooking saves tons/ i seem to spend too much!?
OK, unless уου аrе eating noodles wіth hot dogs, іt іѕ nοt cheaper tο cook. I cook actual real food аnd mу husband аnd I саn nοt manage tο spend less thаn 500-600 a month οn food. Wе live іn Nеw York ѕο maybe thаt hаѕ something tο dο wіth іt. I cook things lіkе duck, beef bourgionion, goulash, roast lamb, roasted chicken, etc. Wе dο nοt eat pasta / bread/ hamburger meat, іѕ thаt whу wе spend ѕο much? I јυѕt саn nοt bυу unhealthy food, аnd pasta аnd bread саn fill уου up fοr low-cost bυt thеу suck. Wе spend аbουt 50/week solely οn salad veggies аnd fruit. Wе аrе nοt rich аnd i really want tο mаkе іt more cost effective bυt i refuse tο eat top ramen οr οthеr non quality dishes- sorry people bυt hamburger helper іѕ nοt food, nеіthеr іѕ mac n cheese.
I cook real food and like doing it. It is certainly cheaper to do it yourself than to go out and eat. If you are going to McDonald’s then yes.. ok that is cheaper. But if you are going to a restauarnt and ordering beef bourgionion for 2 people, plus drinks and salads, that adds up and promptly. It is much higher than just cooking the meal at home. Plus you doubtless have leftovers also, so you can get even more for your buck. If you can’t afford to eat things like duck and other expensive meats all the time, then don’t. You can still cook incredible and healthy food without buying top ingredients. Those should be treats not everyday things. Especially if you can’t fit your budget!
I agree that hamburger helper, ramen and packaged mac and cheese aren’t food. But, duck and lamb are higher priced meats. Perhaps you can add lentils (lentil salad, lentil soup) to your diet, or other legumes? Watch the sales and buy your meats on sale and in larger quantities, freezing them in 2 person parts. In fact, I don’t reckon your budget is all that high, especially in New York. And eating out all the time is both more expensive and less healthy.
yea, the food you are cooking is kind of expensive, especially the duck and lamb. it is better to kill the duck yourself, or know someone who raises sheep for food ( you buy the sheep and have it butchered) the reason it expenditure so much is because you buy more food then just for one meal, you could make a few meals will a beat of ground beef and salad. or go buy a steer and have it butchered. that is what my family does, we get a whole steer and have it butchered. it expenditure about $500 but it is enough beef to last a year or two. try going to plates town to their food market, you will get a excellent choice of food for cheaper. like seafood, or chicken.
you’re eating really excellent food which expenditure more, but thats ok cause if you were to eat that every day at a restaurant, it woudl defiently cost you accurate to $100 a day!
also, condiments, jams, canned food, fresh poultry, beef etc cost more and add up promptly compared to a head of lettuce etc.
