    Hello, I will try to answer your questions one by one;
    -Pekins are not known to be splendid sitters, they may sit on eggs, but usually they won’t go the full term, and then abandon the nest. I have had hen pekins hatch babies, but in all my being of raising them, I reckon maybe 4-5 have in fact hatched ducklings.
    -The only way I know of to check fertility is incubate and candle them at about a week, there would be veins easily seen on fertile eggs.
    -If you are collecting the eggs, its nothing for a pekin hen to lay over a hundred eggs a year. But, if you only want to hatch a few, let her keep them for a while because eggs can be kept without incubation for nearly 7-10 days, maybe a bit longer but not much. Hatch-ability goes down pretty quick after 10 or so days. So what I would do, is leave them a few days, see if she is laying them together, because if she lays them in a nest she may try to incubate them herself.
    Hope that helps

    If you want a splendid mama duck, get the 2nd generation mallard hen. They are splendid full term sitters and excellent mothers. You can collect the ducklings when they hatch. They usually hatch 10 to 15 eggs or but many they can cover. Mine glide nearly my house and they are really fun to watch.The eggs hatch in 28 days from the day she starts setting. If you have a greenhead with the hen, I would guarantee you fertility in the eggs, and the baby mallard ducklings are about as cute as can be !!!!! The greenhead is the male mallard !!!
